    Lip Fillers

Create natural-looking, fuller & youthful looking lips by your expert doctor.

A great deal of expertise and artistry goes into creating beautifully balanced lips that look natural. In expert hands, lip fillers in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester can create fuller and more defined lips to give you a more attractive smile.

Wider, fuller lips with defined vermillon borders are signs of youth and female attractiveness. As we grow older our lips become thinner, flatter and less defined. This is because we produce less of the hyaluronic acid that is essential for volume.

Dr Nicole uses a leading lip filler brand made from hyaluronic acid, to give you the best possible aesthetic results. Hyaluronic acid filler is a temporary filler, and the filler is broken down over time by your own natural enzymes.

Dr Nicole’s lip fillers in Cheshire, Lancashire and Manchester can smooth away upper lip lines, enhance the lip outline and boost volume. Dr Nicole will assess your smile and facial proportions during a comprehensive lip assessment to determine the ideal way to enhance your lips. This can be done using a combination of lip fillers, anti-wrinkle injections, and other treatments.

Dr Nicole’s treatment principle is creating perfectly balanced features in a subtle, natural way.

    The expertise behind enhancement

There is much more to lip enhancement than adding volume alone. Before you have any treatment, Dr Nicole will carry out an extensive lip assessment to determine the right treatment plan for you. This will include:

    • Assessing the lips in 3D and proportion
    • Assessing your smile. If you have a gummy smile or downturned mouth, Dr Nicole will discuss using anti-wrinkle injections to address these concerns
    • Determining the correct amount of lip fillers to create a natural look
    • Deciding whether treatment is enhancing (perfecting lips by adding volume or pout etc) or restoring (addressing ageing concerns)
    • Assessing lines and wrinkles around the mouth which can be improved with dermal fillers, chemical peels and other skin treatments

What constitute the key features of perfect lips?

    • Curved, well-defined vermillon borders with a well-defined cupid’s bow centrally
    • Sharply defined philtral columns
    • The upper lip has a prominent protrusion (tubercle) centrally
    • The upper to lower lip ratio is approximately 1:1.6 times (but 1:1 ratio in the Afro-Carribean ethnic group)
    • The lower lip has a small depression centrally and two lateral protrusions
    • The mouth corners should be at least straight and maybe slightly upturned
    • On lateral profile, the upper lip should project slightly further than the lower lip (around 2mm)
    • On lateral profile, nasolabial angle of 90-100°
    • Smooth skin around the lips without visible wrinkles or fine lines

Generally, both lips are treated to create perfect lip proportions but Dr Nicole treats lips individually as well to address specific concerns such as a thin upper lip. Please see the separate pages for further information on dermal filler treatments for cheeks, eyes, jaw line and neck.

    Frequently Asked Questions

About Lip Enhancements at Dr Nicole Dermatology
      • What do dermal fillers for lip enhancement contain?

Dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid (which is naturally present in our skin) in a smooth gel. We use dermal fillers specially developed for the lip and mouth area to smooth lip lines, add volume and provide definition and contour.

      • What results can I expect?

Dr Nicole’s dermal fillers in Cheshire, Lancashire and Manchester usually give immediate results following the procedure. The results will depend on your individual requirements and will be discussed fully during the consultation. We always aim to use these treatments to enhance your natural features, giving natural-looking results.

      • In what ways can dermal fillers enhance lips?

They can add volume to thin lips while redefining the outline (vermillion border) of the lips and enhancing the cupid’s bow. Fillers can also enhance and restore balance and symmetry, and soften lines around the mouth. All these effects contribute to natural, fuller and more youthful-looking lips.

      • How long do the results last?

This can vary from one person to the next as individual metabolism affects the length of results, but generally speaking around 6-9 months with the standard range, and 12-15 months with the longer-lasting range.

      • How long does the treatment take?

You will usually be with us for 30 minutes. Your first consultation will include a full facial analysis, and discussion of your concerns and treatment options.

      • What about aftercare?

We are committed to providing the very best aftercare for great results. We will go through everything in detail before your treatment but you can rest assured that swelling, redness or minor bruising will usually subside soon after the treatment. Avoid sun beds, saunas, steam rooms and extreme temperatures until redness or swelling subsides. It is also important not to wear make-up for a minimum of 2 hours after your treatment. Detailed information on aftercare will be given at the consultation.

      • Is the treatment pain free?

Discomfort is usually minor, but this can vary from person to person. Dermal fillers contain a local anaesthetic to reduce pain and we can also apply a topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) to improve your comfort.

      • Are dermal fillers safe?

Dermal fillers are a relatively safe treatment and millions of procedures have been carried out. Complications are uncommon and allergic reactions are very rare. It is important to ensure that treatment is done by a fully-qualified professional with an in-depth knowledge of facial anatomy and experience to minimise the risk of complications. A full discussion of the potential risks will be carried out at consultation, before any procedure is undertaken.

    1 Consultation

Your expert consultation gives you the perfect opportunity to ask any questions you might have. We will talk through all you need to know about treatments for lip enhancement, assess your lips, and discuss your aims to develop a treatment plan that is exactly right for you. Full information on what the procedure involves, risks and aftercare instructions will be given. Before and after photos can be shown at consultation to give you an idea of what the treatment can achieve.

    2 The Treatment

Your treatment duration will vary, but your full appointment will generally last between 30 minutes. We can offer a topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) to make the procedure as comfortable as possible.

    3 Aftercare

Avoid sun beds, saunas, steam rooms and extreme temperatures until any redness or swelling subsides. We also advise not to apply any make-up for a minimum of 2 hours after treatment.
