    Calf Slimming

    Calf Slimming with anti-wrinkle injections (botulinum toxin injections)

    Calf Slimming injections are performed using a vacuum-­dried, purified botulinum toxin type A, which is the similar ingredient for anti-wrinkle injections on the face. The treatment is carried out every 3-4 months for the first few sessions, and then maintenance is usually every 4-6 months, or depending on the individual condition.

    HOW IT WORKS

    Calf slimming injections work by blocking the nerve signals responsible for activating your muscles. When injected carefully into the appropriate calf muscles, it causes a medium term relaxation of the muscle. Over time, this results in a slimmer and more contoured-looking calf muscle.

    PRECAUTIONS

    It is NOT advisable to have the treatment if you have the following:

    •An active infection at the site of treatment

    •A neuromuscular disorder

    •Younger than 18 years old

    •Pregnant or breast-­‐feeding

    •A swallowing disorder

    •Breathing difficulties

      • PROPOSED TREATMENT COURSE

        In general, we recommend 3-4 treatments sessions per year to maintain the best result in the first year. Once the desired effect is achieved, maintenance treatment sessions can be reduced to 2-3 times per year, or depending on the individual condition.

      • RESULTS

        Results can vary among individuals. In general, results start to become noticeable over time, after 2 or 3 treatment sessions, sometimes earlier if the calf muscles are small. Results tend to last between 2-6 months.

    1 Consultation

    Dr Nicole with give the treatment area a full examination and talk you through what to expect. She will also explain the process and make sure your comfortable with the procedure and identify whether it is right for you.

    2 The Treatment

    A topical anaesthetic cream is usually not required prior to the treatment. However, if you prefer, you can request for a topical anesthetic cream to be applied about 20 minutes prior to your treatment.

    During the procedure, a fine needle is used to inject under the skin throughout the calves. In general, about 4-6 injections points per calf.  The treatment is generally well-tolerated with minimal discomfort. Side effects are extremely rare.

    3 Aftercare

    After treatment, some patients may experience warmth in the treated areas temporarily. The skin can look red and swollen for a few hours, rarely lasting for 1-‐2 days, or longer. Minor bruising can occur and if this happens, it can take 2-­‐3 weeks to settle.
