The differences between PICO Genesis and PICO Genesis FX

While they sound almost identical, they are used to tackle different skin issues.

In today’s blog, I will discuss the differences between Pico Genesis and Pico Genesis fx and what each is used for.

    Firstly, how do they work?

Pico Genesis and Pico Genesis FX use picosecond laser technology to treat various skin issues. These therapies deliver ultra-short laser pulses in the picosecond range (trillionths of a second) that interact with the skin to achieve specific therapeutic objectives.

    Can you elaborate on this?

Sure, let me break them down separately:

    PICO Genesis

This primarily treats pigmentation disorders and promotes skin renewal. Its modes of action include:

    1. Pigment Fragmentation: The skin’s excess melanin (pigment) absorbs the picosecond laser pulses. The laser’s energy vibrates and fragments the pigment particles, resulting in smaller, more controllable particles.
    2.  Phagocytosis: Once the pigment particles have been broken down, the immune system can more efficiently remove them from the affected area. This procedure helps to diminish the appearance of pigmentation anomalies such as sunspots, freckles, and melasma.
    3.  Stimulated Collagen Formation: it stimulates collagen and elastin formation, which helps to rejuvenate the skin and give it a younger appearance. Improved collagen production can result in smoother, firmer skin.

    PICO Genesis FX

This combines elements of the Pico Genesis procedure with fractional skin resurfacing to provide a more comprehensive skin rejuvenation solution. Its modes of action include:

    1. Pigment Fragmentation: it uses picosecond pulses to break down pigment particles like Pico Genesis. This resolves pigmentation concerns like sunspots and freckles.
    2.  Fractional Skin Resurfacing: it also uses fractional technology. The laser causes small, controlled areas of thermal harm in the skin. These micro-injuries increase collagen production and encourage skin remodelling.
    3.  Combined Effects: By combining pigment fragmentation and fractional resurfacing, Pico Genesis FX improves skin tone, texture, and overall look. It can minimise fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars while treating pigmentation issues.

Which laser should I book in for?

Both treatments benefit from the ultra-short pulse duration, which minimises heat transfer to surrounding tissues. This characteristic reduces the risk of side effects and shortens recovery time. The specific mechanisms of action may vary depending on the patient’s skin condition, goals, and individual factors. The laser you need will be determined during your consultation in relation to the criteria above.
